Early · West again, further this time
An early pickup and the long run west to Jebel Dhanna — around two and a half hours of easy motorway with coffee and commentary. Delma sits offshore from the UAE's far western coast, and getting there is half pilgrimage, half road trip.
Morning · The ferry crossing
From Jebel Dhanna the passenger ferry makes the crossing to Delma, typically around an hour and a half on the water. Tea from a flask, gulls overhead, and a horizon with nothing modern on it. Your guide handles tickets and timings; you handle the sea air.
Late morning · The pearling houses
Delma was the pearling capital of the Gulf, and its restored coral-stone merchant houses are the proof — thick walls, carved doors and rooms that once held fortunes in pearls. The old Al Muraykhi house and its neighbours are small museums now, and your guide brings the trade's boom and heartbreak to life.
Around noon · The island loop
A gentle circuit of the island: the small harbour with its fishing boats, date farms fed by wells that made Delma a rare green island, and the historic mosques of the old settlement. Life here runs on fishing, dates and ferry timetables, in roughly that order.
Early afternoon · Beach and picnic
An unhurried picnic lunch and an hour on a beach you will very likely have to yourselves. No loungers, no beach club, no music — just clean sand and the western Gulf doing its flat turquoise thing.
Afternoon · Ferry back, home by evening
The return crossing and the drive east, timed to the ferry schedule. You are typically back in Abu Dhabi by evening. Few visitors to the UAE have ever done this day; that is precisely its value.

Insider tips

The ferry timetable rules the day, not us — we build the itinerary around it and so should your expectations. Flexibility is the entry fee.
Book in the cooler months. October to April gives you a pleasant crossing and a beach hour that feels like a gift rather than an endurance event.
Buy dates on the island if any are offered. Delma's wells made it a date garden in the middle of the sea, and the local fruit makes a better souvenir than anything in an airport.
Photograph the harbour when you arrive, not before you leave — the light is better and the fishing boats are still in.
Bring a book or download something for the crossings. Three hours of ferry is either dead time or the most relaxed reading you will do all trip, and the choice is yours.

How much of the day is travel?

Most of it, and we will not dress that up: around five hours of road and three of ferry across the day. Delma is a destination for travellers who enjoy the journey — the crossing itself is genuinely pleasant. If you want maximum sights per hour, one of our city tours will serve you better.

What documents do I need?

Bring your passport, and your Emirates ID if you are a resident — the ferry serves a working island community and ID checks apply. We confirm the current requirements with you before booking so there are no surprises at the jetty.

What is the ferry like? I worry about seasickness.

It is a working passenger ferry — simple, sturdy and air-conditioned, not a cruise ship. The crossing is typically calm, but in winter a shamal wind can put chop on the water; if you are prone to seasickness, take your usual remedy beforehand. We monitor conditions and will flag a rough forecast honestly.

Is there food on the island?

Options are few and modest, which is why we bring a proper picnic lunch with us. Tell us about dietary requirements when booking. The island's cafeterias are charming in their way, and karak on Delma tastes better for the effort it took to reach it.

Is this tour suitable for children or older guests?

The island itself is easy — flat, short distances, gentle pace. The long travel day is the honest obstacle, so we recommend it for children who handle car journeys well and for anyone comfortable with a full day out. Boarding the ferry involves gangways and some steps.

What should I wear?

Modest, light clothing — Delma is a conservative island community, and covered shoulders and knees are the respectful standard. Comfortable shoes, a hat and sunscreen, and swimwear worn discreetly under clothes if you plan to swim at the beach stop.
