A boat-only island minutes from the Corniche — beach time with the skyline behind you. This is a fully private experience in Abu Dhabi: your own vehicle, your own driver-guide, and an itinerary that flexes on the day.

One price covers the whole vehicle for up to 6 guests — bring the family and the price does not move. Allow about 6 hours. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included.

The Gulf here is calm, shallow and improbably turquoise — closer to a lagoon than open sea on most days. Expect skyline views from the water, easy conditions, and gear handled for you end to end.

Practicalities, handled: your driver's WhatsApp arrives the evening before with the exact pickup time; the vehicle carries chilled water and chargers; timings flex on the day if a flight, a nap or a whim demands it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before travel, and you can pay on the day.

Your day, stop by stop

  1. Morning or late afternoon · The ten-minute escape

Your driver-guide collects you and delivers you to the marina, where our partner operator's boat is waiting. Al Lulu sits just off the Corniche — the crossing takes only minutes, which makes the transformation on the other side all the stranger.

  2. The crossing · Skyline astern

The boat pulls out and Abu Dhabi arranges itself behind you: Corniche towers, Emirates Palace, the breakwater flags. It is the city's best portrait angle, and you get it twice — once each way. Cameras out; the ride is short.

  3. Landing · An island with nobody on it

You step off onto white sand with the skyline floating across the water. Al Lulu is boat-access only and largely undeveloped, so what you get is space, quiet and sea — we bring the umbrellas, cool box, fresh water and beach kit, because the island brings almost nothing.

  4. The good hours · Swim, wander, do nothing

Calm, shallow water on the city-facing side, long walks on sand that holds maybe a dozen other footprints, and a horizon in both directions. Your guide sets up camp and keeps the drinks cold; the schedule from here is entirely yours.

  5. Golden hour · The shot, then home

If you take our advice and book the afternoon slot, you get the skyline lighting up gold across the water before the boat comes back for you. You are typically returned to your hotel within the half day, sandier and considerably calmer than you left it.

Insider tips

  • Book the late-afternoon slot. Midday on an exposed island is a test of character; golden hour with the skyline across the water is the whole point.
  • The best photograph is from the eastern shore, shooting back at the city — arrange your walk so you are there when the light turns.
  • Pack light but pack long sleeves. A rash top or thin cover-up beats reapplying sunscreen every forty minutes on an island with no shade of its own.
  • Water shoes earn their place — parts of the shoreline carry shell drifts that are lovely to look at and less lovely underfoot.
  • Treat it as a half-day reset, not a checklist item. The guests who love Al Lulu most are the ones who bring a book, swim twice and let the city wait.

Questions, answered

What facilities are on the island?

Very few, and that is the product. There are no shops, no cafés and only the most basic facilities, so we bring everything with us — shade, cold drinks, fresh water and beach kit. Tell us what would make your few hours perfect and we will pack accordingly.

Is it safe to swim? Are there lifeguards?

The lagoon-side shallows are calm and gently shelving, but there are no lifeguards — this is an undeveloped island, not a resort beach. Swim within your ability, keep children within arm's reach, and your guide will point out the best and safest stretch on the day.

Is this good for children?

Excellent for the bucket-and-spade age — shallow water, soft sand and a boat ride at each end, which for most children is the highlight regardless of what is in the middle. Life jackets are provided for the crossing. Bring more sun protection than you think you need; shade on the island is what we carry, not what grows.

Can we bring alcohol for a beach picnic?

No — in the UAE alcohol is served only at licensed venues, and a public island is not one. We stock the cool box generously with soft drinks, juices and water instead. If you want a sundowner, we can end the day at a licensed venue back on the mainland.

What should I bring?

Swimwear, a towel, serious sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a cover-up for the crossing. Water shoes are useful for shelly patches. Leave valuables at the hotel; the island has sand, sea and a skyline, and none of them take contactless.

What happens if the weather turns?

Crossings depend on sea conditions, and safety outranks the itinerary. If the wind is up we will tell you early and rebook you for another slot or another day rather than deliver a miserable version of a lovely trip. This is rare — the channel is sheltered most days of the year.

What happens after you book

  1. You get a confirmation straight away, with the reference and everything included in writing.

  2. The evening before, your driver messages you on WhatsApp with the exact pickup time and their name.

  3. On the day they are early, the water is cold, and the plan bends to you. Pay then, or in advance — your call.
