Ten minutes at 70 metres over the Corniche, dry take-off and landing. A small-group experience in Abu Dhabi, run to a standard we would put our own name on — because we do.
Allow about 2 hours door to door. Departures are kept small, kit is provided, and hotel pickup can be added at checkout.
The specialist activity on this experience is delivered by our licensed marine operator, working under their own permits and insurance, with a PNW Tourism driver-guide looking after you door to door.
Every operator we subcontract holds the permits, insurance and safety record we would demand of ourselves — checked before we put our name near them. You get the adrenaline; the paperwork was our job.
Practicalities, handled: your driver's WhatsApp arrives the evening before with the exact pickup time; the vehicle carries chilled water and chargers; timings flex on the day if a flight, a nap or a whim demands it. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before travel, and you can pay on the day.

Your day, stop by stop
Pickup and the waterfront
A short hop in the Carnival to the departure jetty on the Corniche waterfront. The whole outing runs around two hours door to door, which makes it an easy add to any Abu Dhabi day. Your driver-guide waits while you fly.
Harness, jacket, brief
The crew fits your life jacket and flight harness and runs a two-minute brief. There is very little to learn because the winch does all the work — you are essentially precious cargo. Nervous flyers relax noticeably at this point.
Launch from the deck
You sit on the boat's rear platform, clipped to the line, and the winch pays out as the boat accelerates. The lift is smooth and gradual — no jolt, no jump, and your feet never touch the water. Within a minute the boat below looks like a toy.
Ten minutes at around 70 metres
The Corniche crescent unrolls beneath you — the skyline, the beaches, Emirates Palace, the islands offshore. It is surprisingly quiet up there; just wind and the distant hum of the boat. Around ten minutes of the best view in the city, held up by physics and a very strong rope.
The gentle reel-in
The winch draws you smoothly back to the deck for a standing landing, dry feet and all. If you fancy a toe-dip in the sea on the way down, ask before launch and the skipper can usually oblige. Then it is back to the jetty and into the Carnival, hair slightly improved by the wind.
Insider tips
- Fly in the late afternoon — the light goes soft on the skyline and the photos from the boat improve dramatically.
- Strap your sunglasses or leave them with the crew. The seabed off the Corniche is quietly collecting unstrapped pairs.
- Wear shorts or leggings rather than jeans; the harness sits far more comfortably.
- Decide about the toe-dip before launch and tell the skipper — sign language at 70 metres has a limited vocabulary.
- If anyone in your group is anxious, book a morning slot when winds are typically lightest and the sea is at its flattest.
Questions, answered
Is it frightening?
Far gentler than it looks from the beach. There is no jumping and no freefall — you are winched out and back like a kite on a reel, and the ascent is smooth. Most nervous flyers come down describing it as peaceful, which surprises nobody who has done it.
Can two of us fly together?
Tandem flights are usually available, subject to combined weight limits that vary with the day's wind. Tell us who is flying when you book and the partner operator will confirm. Flying with a nervous friend attached is a well-tested cure for their nerves.
Will we get wet?
Not unless you want to. Take-off and landing are dry, from the boat's deck. A brief toe-dip on the descent can often be arranged on request — or firmly declined, which the crew will equally respect.
Are there age and weight limits?
Yes — minimum and maximum weights apply for safe flight, and they shift with wind conditions on the day. Children typically fly tandem with an adult. Give us ages and rough weights at booking and we will confirm everything with the partner operator.
Can I take my phone up?
Only with a proper strap or tether — the sea keeps whatever you drop, permanently. The better plan is to hand your phone to the crew for launch and landing shots and simply enjoy the ten minutes. Views this good deserve eyes, not screens.
What if it is too windy?
Flights are wind-dependent and the crew makes the safety call on the day, without negotiation. If your slot is blown out we simply rebook you, usually within the same trip. A cancelled flight is annoying; the alternative is worse.
What happens after you book
You get a confirmation straight away, with the reference and everything included in writing.
The evening before, your driver messages you on WhatsApp with the exact pickup time and their name.
On the day they are early, the water is cold, and the plan bends to you. Pay then, or in advance — your call.
